The Princess of Wales's Annual Festive Musical Celebration Pays Tribute to Community Volunteers
Her Royal Highness has organised her annual festive musical service at Westminster Abbey, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have supported their local areas.
The sizable congregation will hear a mix of carols, music and readings from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Focusing on Kindness and Compassion
The focus of the event, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.
In the audience are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a tumour, and who set up a charity, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.
"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an remarkable change to the circumstances of individuals," wrote Catherine in a letter ahead of the carol service.
A Steady Comeback
The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to official duties after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".
Musical Talent and Access
Guests arriving at the Abbey will be entertained by budding artists backed by the charitable trust Future Talent, set up with the help of the former royal to increase availability of instrumental training.
An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who is a trumpet player and is from southwest Wales, has been helped by the trust, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at the evening's event.
"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to cultivate their performance abilities.
A Sisterly Duo
Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will be present at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.
Attending the service will be people from various age groups.
That will include young Saphia Turner, nine, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for food banks.
Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment
The Abbey has been adorned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.
Taking to the stage will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us."
The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
